Card table makeover

I should title this post 'Reason 10900 why I love my crafty bearded husband'. I ran to Target last night and came home to find him on our patio working on a card table makeover. He took our old, basic folding card table, unscrewed the table top, and stretched a vinyl table cloth over, stapled it down underneath and trimmed the edges. How great does it look?! I wish I had photographed the process, but it was so easy. It literally took him all of 20 minutes from start to finish. I bought the table cloth for $4 at TJ Maxx a couple of weeks ago, but it was for an oblong table, so I was going to just throw it out, but he turned it into this.

I'm loving how our little outdoor space is turning out :)

  5. Hey there! This will be my first DIY project....

I was curious how the fabric on the table top was secured. Did you use glue? Staples? Another product I've yet to discover!?

    Thank you so much!!!!

    1. So glad you're making it! The fabric was secured with staples--it was just stapled on and then the excess material was trimmed!

  6. It would be super cute to spray paint the metal one of the bright colors from the table top :-) Love this idea - so stealing it!

  8. Genius! I have an old card table just like this with cuts and stains and tears and melted bits on the top. It's been well-loved through 3 generations of crafters. I must do this to give it new life. Thank you so much for sharing and that crafty bearded husband? He's a KEEPER!!! -Dj

    2. I'm not sure if you figured out how to make the rainbow letters, but it can be done in Photoshop. I use CS5, but I'm sure you can do it in elements too. In photoshop create your text using whatever font (you can always change it later). Then double click on the text layer to go to "layer style". Choose "gradient layer". There you may choose your colors, there are some to choose from, but if you want different colors, just double click on the colors and you can change them. If you do a search for "gradient tutorials" you will find lots to help you out. :)
